What Is Myofascial Release?

Myofascial release is an effective and safe hands-on therapy performed to alleviate pain and restore an optimum range of motion. Our chiropractor will look for trigger points to able to accurately locate any restrictions in the myofascia that may be causing tense tender muscles, and in turn muscle, neck, or back pain. Myofascial release uses gentle massages to manipulate painful areas. How Does It Work?

Myofascia refers to your muscles and the densely woven, web-like tissue covering and penetrating your muscles, veins, bones, and arteries, as well as vital organs like the heart, lungs, brain, and spinal cord. The fascia forms one continuous covering existing from head to toe, connecting each part of the body to every other part. When any part of this becomes tight and forms knots, it can cause pain that spreads throughout the body. By finding certain painful areas, our chiropractor can loosen them, in turn alleviating pain in other areas of the body.

To determine what areas need work, our chiropractor applies firm but gentle pressure to your muscles and looks for a corresponding muscle reaction that may or may not be anywhere near where he is touching. This can cause a muscle to twitch or cause a referring pain somewhere else in your body. 

Causes of Myofascial Pain Syndrome

The myofascia can become tight and rigid as a result of scarring after a muscle injury heals.
